We undertook alteration works for a coffee shop space in a local university, encompassing structural changes, finishes, fittings, and service installations.

The existing structure was modified with new timber stud partitions, including a timber capping board detail with a shadow gap. Walls received a painted finish, along with the installation of a VTEC fire-rated timber panel system in brown. Brass splashbacks were installed behind worktops. Existing vinyl column covers were replaced and colour matched with new column covers in Polar White. We also provided a café with external signage. For the floors, Amtico flooring was laid in a random stone pattern. Ceiling touch-ups were also included.

The space was fitted with an oak laminate counter with Howdens Clerkenwell cabinets in Sandstone and a worktop extending over the under-counter equipment. A brushed steel shadow gap was added above and below the counter, along with a brass upstand and two grey granite sinks.

Our in-house electrical team installed the lighting and electrical elements. This included new LED surface-mounted lights, 13A switched fused connection units, grid switches, and isolators, as well as a new final circuit distribution board and associated wiring for all kitchen appliances. Plumbing, and mechanical services were installed. Mechanical alterations included modifying existing pipework, removing existing fans, and installing new extract fans with new grilles and diffusers.

Despite the challenges of working in a busy university environment and unexpected asbestos discovery in the ceiling, our team successfully completed this job with speed and efficiency, delivering a redesigned coffee shop that has already become a new favourite break spot for students and staff.
