Case studiesInspiring upgrades for prestigious art college
We upgraded and reconfigured sections of an iconic building owned by a world-renowned art college. The project was completed within the summer holidays and took just eight of the 12 weeks available.
Built in the 1960s, the building is situated in a stylish and affluent area of London. It is home to a range of specialties, from architecture, design interactions and fashion to global innovation design, interior design, textiles, and vehicle design.
The upgrades transformed the environment, helping the college keep pace with the contemporary art and design industry and creating facilities worthy of tomorrow’s practitioners.
Although the commission went ahead in early June, short courses were still taking place, so the work was phased to allow safe access and efficient construction. Minimum planned and zero unplanned disruption to the college’s timetable was a priority.
The project was delivered through close client co-operation, detailed construction planning and extremely flexible working. It included demolition of block and partition walls, construction of new walls forming new spaces, and floor and wall finishes on various floors, in accordance with the architectural design.
We also modified power, lighting, fire detection and alarm and access control systems, delivered voice and data cabling, and modified the ventilation distribution systems to ensure compliance with building regulations and the integrity of fire compartment design.
The outcome was cutting-edge facilities to inspire future artists and designers, delivered ahead of time and with minimum disruption.
